Running with the Devil - Comments & Tips
I have watched a lot worse movies of Cage lately but this is not one of them. I can not say I enjoyed it but not bad at all for time killing.
This can't be a real movie. I've seen some bad movies, but this is exceptionally bad.
The plot of the movie was all over the place. I had no idea what was going on half the time or why. The characters seemed to just appear doing things because the script told them to. I kept asking myself what just happened. It had no rhythm or structure, and the pace was a mess. There was this guy who appears at the start of the movie with his family who had quite a bit of screen time to just disappear and was never seen again. I don't know why he was even included in the film. He served no purpose. The DEA agent plot was slow and a waste of time. Nicolas Cage wasn't good but wasn't terrible. Laurence Fishburne was not very good in this. His character was written so poorly. He had this really silly scene with these two prostitutes and then an even worse scene at this strip club. I could not take him seriously. The other characters don't warrant my time to speak on. The ending was trash and so was this film. 3/10
I''ve got more talent in my whole body than Nic Cage has in his little finger (or whatever). This cut and dry thriller isn''t worth the tiny effort required to watch it.
Okay movie. Drags on a bit. The ending surprised me.
In the words of my wife who finds something good in every shitty movie: '"This was a waste of valuable life time - maybe the worst movie made in the last century'". I have already forgotten it. Which movie am I reviewing?
Cage has starred in some dire movies in recent years, which is a shame, as he is a very capable actor. I expected this to be one of his better films, partly because of the acting talent he is surrounded with. Sadly, everybody is wasted, as this is a messy, unfocussed essay on drugs that has nothing new or interesting to say. Sorry to say it, but this really is garbage!
Wow, I guess Laurence Fishburne went bankrupt.
This was an interesting film with a lot of promise. But after 30 mins you''re still not really sure what''s happening. Slow and boring, not worth watching.
I enjoyed this from start to finish. A well-executed idea to trace from start to finish the life cycle of the drugs. Cage and Fishbourne were both on point doing what they do at this stage of their careers. I liked that the direction was capable and not flashy with some neat editing to spice it up when worthy. My only complaint was some of the score brought me out of the scenes - a bit thumpy during the desert scene particularly. Another recommendation from The Dana Buckler Show that has not disappointed in the slightest. A very efficient and informative film. 7.25/10
Sort of a Traffic wannabe, Running with the Devil is a mediocre and underwhelming crime drama. When a shipment of tainted cocaine kills several people, drawing the attention of the DEA, the head of the operation sends a specialist to follow the next shipment to find out whoโs been tampering with it and to ensure that nothing goes wrong. Featuring Nicolas Cage, Laurence Fishburne, Leslie Bibb, and Barry Pepper, the cast is pretty strong; however, their performances are rather weak. And the script isnโt that much better; thereโs no real character development and most of them donโt even have names. The plot too is paper thin, requiring the audience to fill-in some of the missing pieces as to why and how things happen. Running with the Devil is problematic, yet it still delivers a bit of suspense and a few thrillers.
