A boy is murdered in Kazakh village. Detective Bekzat wants to wrap up the inquiries quickly: after all, the perpetrator has already been found by local police officers. But when a journalist arrives from the city, everything falls to pieces. For the first time in his career, Bekzat must conduct a real investigation according to procedure.

[AFFBCN] A resounding thriller, with a violence that is not explicit for the most part, but that is implicit in this forceful look at police corruption. It is true that the director takes his time to place the pieces, but the second hour is a superb construction of the moral transformation of the protagonist. With very elaborate framing, a stunning and bleak landscape, a visual approach that looks through mirrors and glass, slow zooms that show the emotional trembling of the characters, it is a great story told with great talent.

Fargo, Kazakhstan. This Kazakh film noir may not have all the action of a Coen brothers movie, but it certainly has all the vibe.

The main interest would be that it is a Kazakh movie, so pretty rare, and the cultural aspect, the atmosphere and decors bring all the originality from it. However apart from that it's pretty common. I felt like I already had seen this movie several times.
