Cristina and Tudor have founded a happy family with their two children, Maria and Ilie. They are in their thirties and live an ordinary life in a nice apartment in a Romanian town, but one Sunday morning when Tudor takes his kids to the park, Maria disappears. Their lives abruptly change forever.

The only thing separating you from chaos is the illusion of order. _Pororoca_ is what happens when that fallacy is ripped away. This story of a father whose daughter is snatched from right under his nose is more than just a tragedy, it's a unique cinematic experience. Most will fault the film's 2 1/2 hour runtime, when in fact it's the movie's biggest asset. _Pororoca_ takes its time to go almost nowhere, but the emotion and the tension are so rich that I barely noticed the time pass. Don't see _Pororoca_ if you're looking for a traditional movie, but if you're looking for a film to savour (think _Body & Soul_ or the thematically similar _Loveless_), this is one of the best of the year.
